How You Can Access Physiotherapy Through the NDIS

Physiotherapists are highly trained in anatomy and physiology, and they are able to help a wide range of people from all ages and of all abilities to find their version of healthy movement and function. A disability can make regular exercise more difficult, but there are often exercises that your physiotherapist can suggest that can help you to maintain functional ability, as well as helping you to manage any symptoms and build up your fitness and mobility while contributing to your overall wellbeing.

If you are living with a disability and you have an NDIS plan, a physiotherapist can help you to achieve your goals and build capacity.

Common conditions that physiotherapy can help with include:

– rheumatoid arthritis

fibromyalgia

– Parkinson’s disease

– spinal cord injuries

– cerebral palsy

– muscular dystrophy

A physiotherapist can be a very useful asset for somebody living with a disability. Here are just some of the ways that a physiotherapist can support you:

– Conducting assessments of how you move, as well as providing progress reports to the NDIS

– Working closely with you to develop a tailored exercise or rehabilitation plan that focuses on helping you to achieve your goals and work with your strengths. We will consider your level of fitness, your mobility, and your skills as well as what goals are working towards. We can support you in creating and implementing an exercise plan that truly works for you

–  We can provide advice and training about assistive devices or adaptive equipment such as walkers, braces and crutches

Physiotherapy and the NDIS

We are proud to provide many useful services for NDIS participants.

If you have an NDIS plan, you might be able to be reimbursed for your treatment with a physiotherapist. Generally, you can access reimbursement if your physiotherapy treatment is directly related to your disability.

You can check your NDIS plan or ask your support coordinator to find out if you have any physiotherapy funding. You can usually find it in the ‘Core Supports’ or ‘Capacity Building’ sections.

You also need to pay attention to whether you are self managed, plan managed or NDIA managed. If you are self or plan managed, then you can choose any physiotherapist that you like to visit. If you are NDIA managed, then you must visit an NDIS registered service provider.

When you call to book your appointment, let us know that you’re an NDIS participant, and our friendly team members can take down any information that we need to prepare for the appointment. When you go to your first NDIS physiotherapy session, they will assist you to develop a service agreement with them. All NDIS services are set at the same price nationwide.

If you are unsure how to organise physiotherapy through the NDIS, give us a call on (07) 3046 1700 – we are always happy to chat to you about our services and how we can support you.
